[Waver presses his forehead against Daigo's as the other lazily leans into his touch. He would not be allowed this at home. If certain people were present... no, he still wouldn't have risked it.]
Nor would I.
[... absently he pulls out the tea ball before the tea steeps from strong to overpowering. There's only so much bitterness a man can stand. And not just in his cuppa.
[ Oh no, the little smile is too sweet. He's hit with the weight of his affection and that cements the fact: no regret. He lingers there a little longer and just enjoys it before he takes the cup of tea and the biscuits over to where Waver likes to sit. He's very helpful like that. ]
Shaxx already wants to know if you're a warlord, by the way.
[ A one track mind on that one. Hears someone is a Lord and mind only jumps to one place. ]
He hates politics. And fundamentally does not understand anything I tell him about the yakuza. I can't get a straight answer as to exactly how long Earth has been destroyed in his timeline.
[ So good luck with that. ]
But if your interests are... grenades and... paracausal entities, you'll be in good shape.
[ Are the men he's dating entirely opposite beings? Yyyes? ]
[There's a slight surprised choke when Daigo mentions Earth destroyed. Waver presses his lips together as though he's gotten an unwelcome reminder, before he chuckles again.]
Most people I know prefer something a little more old fashioned... or unconventional. I'm not opposed, but it won't be my first choice.
[ Daigo's laughter is warm, leaning over the back of the couch with his arms folded. ]
Don't tell him that unless you want a loud, joyful diatribe about how all problems can be solved with a properly deployed grenade.
They fight some alien thing, it sounds like a video game to me. You might have more luck with it. Although whenever it gets too deep even he gets bored with it and pawns the conversation off on one of his friends.
When he isn't blowing things up, he likes literature. I've never met anyone with that much Shakespeare memorized.
[ He slouches further against the back of the couch. He likes this space opera idiot. And it makes him nervous in a way that he isn't about Waver. Nervous about being left behind and let down no matter how often he's told otherwise. It's inevitable with those big hero types, isn't it? ]
Oh, I know that type. [Waver groans, making an exaggerated face.] Wouldn't be my first time getting into that sort of argument, and definitely won't be my last.
[Iskandar was a bit like that. No. Iskandar was a lot like that.]
Hm... [The sound upswings with a thoughtful questioning.] Maybe. Depends what he's in the mood for. [Talking about the Wars with survivors and other Servants can be like that. When they can talk. Then his lips quirk in consternation like he's been reminded of...] Talking about... say, Shakespeare, though. That would be interesting. I know the Bard beyond his body of work, even if he's not what I'd call my cup of tea.
[Yes. Yes. He IS implying that. That he's actually met the man. There's a wry look.]
The Throne of Heroes is essentially something like a data storage archive that exists outside the temporal and spatial axes of physical reality. What it stores as information is souls removed from the cycle of reincarnation.
The general, original purpose is for the protection of the planet and those who inhabit it.
[You know, until mages decided to get involved and fuck everything up...]
If a person makes enough of a mark in history to engrave themselves in human memory across the ages, they are a candidate to be selected and brought to the Throne.
Well, that's usually how it happens, anyway.
In times of extreme crisis, these people, these Heroic Spirits, are summoned from the Throne to counter the threat in question.
[ Mmm. He knows these things are serious to the people who experience them. When you're on the outside being told something ludicrous though, your mind really wanders in ridiculous directions. His head tilts slightly as this aliens vs Shakespeare battle continues to play out in his imagination. That's very silly. ]
Usually, they're summoned into specialized containers, and therefore called Servants. These containers are divided into classes based on their characteristics... Saber, Lancer, Archer, Caster...
[His hand moves to indicate more. Etcetera, in other words.]
When that can't happen, a human host is used and a Servant is created that way. Usually the spirit has control, but there are rare times when it is the opposite.
Which is my case.
[And he waits for the reaction to that bombshell.]
[ Daigo is nigh on helplessly compassionate, and it sounds... very difficult to know so little about something that has changed your life. His head tilts, looking deeply. ]
The term encompasses both magical energy and life force. It's... not quite the same as the manna here. But since most Servants count among the dead, they don't produce their own.
I am not dead, but what I generate by myself is not enough long term for both of us. Flat was supporting me before, but...

I expect everyone to be a bit confused when I'm done. Everything about mage society can be frustratingly convoluted, especially the politics.
